Travel France - Quick Facts

Local Language: French is very similar to English and the Latin based languages such as Spanish and Italian - You'll find similarities. If you're Canadian, you'll probably notice the difference between French and Quebec French after awhile. It's generally a different accent and way of pronouncing words.

Visa Requirements: Canadians are allowed in France for 90 days without a visa.

Costs: France, and Paris in particular is VERY expensive. Especially in the summer high-season. Be sure to budget $100+ per day.

My Travels in France

I've been to France, and Paris in particular many times. Paris is a major transportation hub an you'll quite possibly pass through there more than once. It's a love / hate kind of city. I love it. There's just something about it, the history, culture, museums and attractions. Much to discover.

Pretty much every Canadian I met loved the city, and almost every American hated it. Generally they blame the people, but I had no trouble with them. So long as you make an effort to speak a little French with them and don't assume they speak English. After all, if someone came up to you in your home country and just started speaking another language to you, and then got upset with you because you don't understand them, wouldn't you get upset with them?

Hotels and Hostels in France

France, and Paris in particular gets very busy in the summer. Make your reservations as soon as possible!! I can't stress that enough. All the good hostels and hotels book up quickly, and you don't want to be sleeping on the streets if you can avoid it. Make your hotel reservations as soon as you know you're going!

Flights to France

France has several airports, but by far the major international airport is Charles de Gaulle Airport just outside of Paris. If you're flying Air France you'll most likely stop through here at some point, as it is also a hub for travel to Africa and Asia as well.
