Traveling to Norway you'll find Norway is defined by it's nature - Fjords, mountains, forests, glaciers, and the ocean. You can't get much more natural than that. Combined with some of the most charming cities and towns in Europe, and a strong Viking history, Norway is a trip you won't soon forget.
Local Language: Norwegian - But as with other Scandinavian countries, English is widely understood.
Visa Requirements: Canadians are allowed in Norway for 90 days without a visa.
Health Risks: None.
Costs: Norway is very expensive, much like the rest of Scandinavia. Make sure you've got a good size budget if you want to enjoy some of the nightlife, or stick to self-catering and camping to save the most.
Norway is a beautiful country, with many similarities to Western Canada such as mountains, forests, fjords, waterfalls and more. Spectacular scenery. One of the best things you can do in Norway is just take the train from city to another, particularly the Oslo - Bergen train ride is especially beautiful.
Cities like Oslo and Bergen are great places to get a feel for Norway. There are several great museums to be explored, many of them highlighting Norway's viking history. Night life abounds as well, but beware the expensive alcohol! Liquor is, as with most Scandinavian countries very much more expensive than in most European countries. A night on the town can blow your budget very quickly.
Be sure to travel north to experience some of Norway's great fjords and wilderness areas. Camping is free, so long as you're 150 metres from a building, and so long as you clean up after yourself.

Trains are a good way to get around the country, but you'll probably need to take a ferry to get to Norway from mainland Europe, or you can train or bus it from Sweden.
Eurail passes cover Norway, and are definitely worth purchasing as the train is the best way to get around the country as with most of Europe. Also, the ferries are covered which is very helpful.

Norwegian is similar to most Nordic-Germanic languages, such as Danish and Swedish. If you can speak another Germanic language you'll find many similarities.
