Canada Holidays and Flights

Canada has always been a popular tourist destination for Americans and, despite the current economic climate, it looks as though next year Canada holidays and flights will remain a firm favorite for Americans. Some people think it odd to want to holiday in Canada, when much of Canada is pretty similar to many of our own northern states. One reason that Canada is such a popular holiday destination is that it has such vast tracts of unpopulated territory - even outside the Northern Territory, which is a virtual wilderness.

Travel to and around Canada.
Just to give you a sense of how big Canada is, before the days of cheap internal air flights some friends I knew in Thunder Bay, Ontario - on the banks of Lake Superior, would think nothing of driving 1000 miles east to Toronto to get a flight to Europe. Bearing that in mind, unless you live close to the Canadian border and the part of Canada you want to go to for your holiday, you’ll be well advised to get a flight to Canada that’s as close to your destination as possible. Of course, it could be that you intend to drive across Canada on an extended holiday - which is certainly the way to most fully enjoy the variety of scenery that a holiday in Canada can offer you. However, if you can’t fly directly to the town or city in Canada that your holiday will start at, do at least see if you can get an internal flight between the two places in Canada. Using the internet to book and pay for your flight to Canada and any transfers is easy to do and will undoubtedly save you money. There are plenty of websites specializing in flights to Canada that will have services to east, central and western Canada cities - such as Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver; all of which are ideal places to start your Canada holiday from.

Some Canada holiday ideas.
The three Canadian cities just mentioned above to fly to can be ideal places to start a short touring holiday in Canada. With a known history going back to the 17th century Toronto is now the largest city in Canada and is the commercial and industrial centre of the country. It also has a great mix of history and modern culture ranging from the Royal Ontario Museum with art, archaeology and natural science exhibitions - to the CN Tower, which is still currently the worlds tallest free standing structure at 1815 feet. Less than 100 miles away from Toronto is one of the ‘must see’ sights when on holiday in this part of Canada - Niagara Falls. Millions of people visit Niagara Falls every year to witness the six million cubic feet of water per minute disappearing over it - not to mention the occasional dare-devil stunts over and across it. If you’ve seen this Canadian holiday border attraction from the USA side, try it from the Canadian side too, where it’s said to be even more enjoyable. If you want to continue exploring cities and towns during your Canada holiday, you can then make your way on to Ottawa and Montreal. If you don’t speak French - no need to be put off by being in the French speaking part of Canada, they’ll speak English to you. After being in the cities you can then head out west and explore Quebec and some of Ontario before heading back to Toronto. If you’re living in the north east of the USA a Canada holiday out west might well be more what you’re after, in which case flying to Vancouver is ideal. A Canada holiday starting here is mainly about exploring the Canadian Rockies. If you don’t want to drive yourself around here there are plenty of organized coach and train tours that you can book onto, just search around on the internet for websites that can recommend Canada holiday itineraries. You can explore Sulfur Mountain, hot springs in the National Parks, visit the Banff Indian Trading Post, see the wild-life including bears around Jasper, or even, on the coast at Victoria, see Pacific Ocean whales. If you do fancy driving around this area yourself you could always fly out to Calgary and then drive via Jasper and Banff etc to Vancouver, to pick up your return flight from Canada.
