Making Your Next Vacation as Painless as Possible

Your vacation should be a time of rest and relaxation, but often, it can become a stressful experience due to poor planning. By simply taking the time to follow a few basic steps, you will ensure that your next vacation is all about having fun and forgetting about the cares of the world, not adding to them.

  1. Confirm everything - If you have an airline flight, a hotel room, and scheduled activities, call ahead to confirm all of these reservations. This will enable you to know that you’re not going to walk into a hotel and be told that there is no room listed under your name. Try to call or email about two days in advance to be sure that everything is in order.
  2. Get your boarding pass online - If you’re able to do so, try to get your boarding pass online prior to arriving at the airport. This will enable you to get the best seating, if that’s how the airline works, plus you can forgo the long lines at the ticket counter and simply check your bags and head to security.
  3. Make a list before you go - To make sure that you’ve packed everything that you need, make a list of the things that you will need each day and then check it off as these items go into your luggage. This will allow you to feel ready for vacation and not have to make any stops for items you have forgotten.
  4. Plan well ahead of your departure date - When you plan your vacation about six months ahead of time, you will be able to make any adjustments far ahead of your arrival, instead of at the last minute. Plus, you will secure the lowest prices for your overall trip.
  5. Bring a first aid kit - In a very literal sense, be sure to bring a first aid kit to make your vacation painless. Stocked with gauze, antiseptic lotion, antibiotic cream, anti itch medication and pain medicine, you will be ready for nearly any discomfort that you might face.
  6. Learn about where you’re going ahead of time - While it might sound adventurous to head out into the unknown without any idea of where you’re heading, it’s generally a better plan to have at least a tentative itinerary and local directions. At least, you’ll know where you are and where you could go instead of ending up lost.
