Pregnant? Here are Some Tips for Travelling Safely

When you’re travelling, your safety should always be your primary concern. However when you’re pregnant and travelling, you have someone else to look out for too. If you want to have a healthy and relaxing vacation, then you need to follow these tips to ensure that you are doing the best for you and your unborn child.

Don’t travel alone - Unless it’s absolutely necessary, try to travel with someone else when you go on vacation. Bring a friend or a family member, if a spouse can’t come. When you’re carrying a child, the fact that you are alone can stand out more to those around you.
Let someone know where you are - If you have to travel alone, if even for a day, give someone that you trust your itinerary as well as expected return time as well as a number to reach you at. This will allow this person to try to contact you should you seem to be later than expected.
Drink plenty of water - It’s very easy to become dehydrated when you’re pregnant, so be sure to always carry a bottle of water with you. But it should also be noted that you do not want to drink local water if you’re travelling in a foreign country. Drink only bottled water in these cases.
Make sure to rest often - No matter how energetic you feel, make sure that you’re still getting enough sleep each night. You need to make sure that your body is getting the time it needs to repair itself and to nourish your baby properly.
Keep your medical records with you - On a flash drive or a CD, scan and save your medical records. This can also include the number of your obstetrician as well as your primary care physician. This will allow you to get the best possible medical treatment, should you need it when you’re on vacation.
Make sure to eat often - Try to snack often in order to keep your energy and your blood sugar levels up. Little pieces of pastry or some fruits with the peels removed are great energy boosters.
Check with your doctor first - Get the okay from your doctor first before you head out the door. If you have a particularly difficult pregnancy, this is wise advice for making sure that you’re not going to cause unnecessary troubles.

You can travel when you’re pregnant and have that last ‘hurrah’ before your child is born. But keeping these tips in mind will make everything all the smoother.
