Hi All,

I am also in a similar situation and I glad I found this thread. I also would like to move my tax home to the US. The only ties I currently have left with Canada are bank account and credit cards. Do you think for this year tax filling can I inform the CRA I left on Dec 31st 2008 without to much problems? Technically I still have my bank account and credit cards on Dec 31 2008. I plan to close them in the next few weeks.

I appreciate your inputs. Thx in advance.

You don't need to close them, you just need to tell them you're non-resident for tax purposes. If you do that they don't count as residential ties.
Steve.
