1st Contact Kickstart Program -- has anyone done it?

Postby heymikey » Thu Jul 23, 2009 2:04 pm

Has anyone went with 1st Contact when they landed in the UK? It seems to be quite informative and helpful and I was wondering if someone here went through the process. It costs 35 pounds by the way.

The package includes:

* An informative orientation guide covering topics such as information on how to apply for National Insurance numbers, general jobs, accommodation and travel advice, as well as information on the UK tax and the health system.
* Assistance with opening a UK bank account. We work in conjunction with 3 of the UK’s leading banks, so you can choose your preferred banking provider.
* A Mobile Phone Sim Card with one of the UK’s top providers.
* International calling card provided by Nomi-phone. You will receive free call time and great rates available to call a variety of overseas destinations.
* Discounts on 1st Contact Services and affiliated partners: Including tax refunds, shipping and the travel clinic.
* 5 days gym membership free with Fitness First
* Claim back your living costs before working in the UK. *

Most of the items in their package are free anyway, so I would just keep doing your research and you'll find all those things.

I write a blog about teaching in London and have posted quite a bit about bank accounts, etc so if you'd like to take a look it's: http://www.classroomcanada.blogspot.com. You should find most of your questions answered there whether you're a teacher or not.

Good luck!
Cheers,
