1st time to renew TN Visa...Questions?

My TN Visa will be expiring on Dec. 31. I've notified my employer that I would require a new letter to present at the POE. Should the contents of the letter be as if it was a new applications or indicate that it is requesting a "renewal"?

Also should the employment agreement be up-to-date as well with the current dates? Or can I still use the employment agreement I used the last time when i initially applied for the TN?

It's a new application as there's apparently no such thing as "renewing" a TN. So have a new letter with new dates of employment. Of course, it'll be similar or identical to the original letter.

Dont forget TN's are now valid for 3 years so make sure it's worded that way in the letter (unless you want to stay only a year, then adjust accordingly)

And why dont you renew in the mail? It's easier than going to the border and dealing with whatever they have going on up there that day

Yes, the letter does have to be up to date with the current terms of employment (salary, etc) and of course, the dates have to be correct.

It would be treated as a new application at the POE, thus a new letter would be required. If you were inside the U.S. internally renewing via mail, it would be considered an extension of status or in slang terms, a renewal.
