2 questions: TN visa vs. J2

Postby Rivkah » Wed Mar 03, 2010 4:53 pm

My fiance is on a J1 visa. We are planning to get married in the USA within the next month. Would I have to leave the US to switch to J2 status? Is it faster to leave/re-enter the US with J2 status? Is there any way to speed up the process of getting the J2 visa and employment authorization?

I have also been contacted by a company interested in hiring me for an internal human resources position. I have a BA in Psychology and an MSc in Management. Are they able to hire me as a management consultant or other TN visa, to speed up the time before I can work?

I have read visajourney.com, done searches here, and looked for answers on tons of websites, so any help is appreciated!

visajourney is not much help since you are not engaged to an american.

To get J2 status, the fastest thing to do ids go to border, and then file for EAD.

You may be able to get TN, however doing so would likley kill your EAD application, so you may just have to sit tight until you get EAD (6-8 weeks). You need to be in J2 status to get the EAD.
