Hey I have a question about the provincial health insurance letter part. What exactly does it have to say on it because I have mine from MSP that pretty much indicates my name, when it started, my health number and then a little paragraph that says that it will remain in effect as long as residency requirements under the medicare protection act are met etc...

Also do the health insurance forms have to indicate anything specific in regards to your length of stay because what if you are unsure if you are going to stay for 6 months or even a year?

Thanks

I am from Ontario so I just went to the service Ontario centre and told them my situation. They knew exactly which letter to give to me. It basically is just a form that a woman had to sign at the bottom. It has one sentence saying that I am covered until the end of my trip. This letter basically means that they are aware that even if I am out of the country I have permission to be covered.

Make sure you have permission to still be covered while out of the country.

If you are applying for the Visa, you need to be sure of the length of your stay. If you come back earlier than the allotted stay, that is your choice. But when you apply, you should definitely be sure about your dates. I have heard that the consulate has a tendency for rejecting applicants whose stay is for 6 months or less.

On top of the provincial health coverage I need additional medical insurance and I am taking this to mean travel health insurance for a year ($700-800). When you buy this insurance, you need specific dates and then need to prove the purchase and highlight these dates for the consulate.

Hope this helps!

Hi - The problem with specific dates is that in order to get a job as a Canadian, I have far less chances of getting hired if I don't have a visa, and if I don't have a job, I want to avoid getting a plane ticket and heading over there without any financial security awaiting for me in France. But it's useless. Is there any way to do this so that they can issue the visa, but not run the risk of being jobless in France? Not sure if you understood my question.

Second question is concerning the insurances. What company do you recommend for the travel insurance? and how about the other liability insurance? Where can you buy that?

thanks!!!

Hey everyone - I'm about to apply for my visa next week, and am curious to know if anyone applied without a return flight ticket? I definitely have sufficient funds to cover it, as it also asks for. It just that flights aren't available yet for my year return...

Ok, so here is my reply to the last two inquiries:

In regards to obtaining a visa and not wanting to purchase a plane ticket with out a secure job: In order to obtain the visa in the first place you need to prove your financial security ($3000 at least!). If you are frugal, this should be able to maintain you in France for at least 3 months. They say that it can take only about 1 or two weeks to get a job at a restaurant or bar or something along those lines. The key is to not be picky right off the bat. A job like that will definitely pay your expenses. Also, know the language! You cannot expect to get a job if you cannot speak French! And if you are there for three months and cannot find a job than you simply pay the extra fee and change the date on your ticket to an earlier return date. Hardly any risks when you take this advice. And if you do not know the language or have the necessary finances, you simply are not ready to head to France. More planning is needed!

Travel health insurance can be purchase at Blue Cross. It is probably the cheapest. You can also purchase it at your bank.

And about that return flight ticket. Tell the airport your situation. They will make note on the ticket that you actually want to return at such and such date but the date is unavailble to book yet. The note will say you can make the date change fee free. The ticket will say the last possible date they give you with the note. Highlight that extra note bit and point it out to the consulate! Easy as pie!

Hi Laura,

I am about to submit my application for the 2E Working Holiday Visa. I was hoping to be travelling to Paris in September. I am sending my application to Toronto from Ottawa. How long did it take them to send your visa?

And when you arrive in France - do you need to visit the consulate there - to acquire additional papers to show to an employer?

I do not have a job lined up - but am hoping to find work in writing centres in Universities - or of course if I need - at restaurants/cafes.

I think I will purchase an open-ended ticket through Transat - once I receive the Visa. It seems I can't purchase Insurance without a return ticket - but you can't book a return ticket with dates so far in advance. I'm going to do a little more research to find out the cheapest option here.

I guess I am looking for any advice, insight - into this whole process.

What about finding an apartment? I don't want to rent from here - until I see the places. I'm thinking of renting a place for a week or so while I search around. Is there a good local website for finding apartments? Best to just walk around?

I am so exciting and can't even believe I am really doing this. I just hope so much the visa process is quick and seamless.

Take care,

Natalie

Also - in the visa application form - they want to know where you'll be staying in Paris. Any advice here? Should I just put a hostel ... how important is this and does it need to be long-term accommodation?

Thanks1

And a final question! For your application you need to show proof of purchase of travel insurance. But it seems you can only buy this if you have a flight booked ... at least departure date. But I have no idea how long it will take the embassy to process the application - and I definitely don't want to pay a change-of-date fee. Please let me know how you have gone about it. Thanks.

I think I am asking the same question as FRIDAONFIRE

For questions 24 and 25 of the actual form, what are we as applicants of the working holiday visa supposed to put down?

I'm assuming that most of us do not yet have an inviting employer/institution or address yet.

Thanks!
