3 month Ontario health insurance

Post Tue Jun 13, 2006 12:20 am

I'm a Canadian citizen returning in August to Ontario after 9 years abroad as a non-resident, and I'm discovering that it's not that easy. I many ways, I'm regarded as a new immigrant. So I would appreciate some good advice on 3 month Ontario health insurance.

OHIP doesn't kick in until I've been their 3 months. I've contact a number of insurance companies to get quotes, but:

CanadaSure: Seems you have to buy the insurance first, then you get to see the policy! I faxed e-mailed them about this - no reply

Manulife: Broker says visitor's insurance covers returning non-residents too, but I would need to pay a lawyer lots of money to interpret the policy and confirm if this is so.

John INGLE: No reply to my e-mail

Green Shield: No reply to e-mail

Blue Shield: No reply to e-mail.

So here is my question. Has anybody used any of one of these companies or any others, and had occasion to put their policies "to the test"?

What a pain! When I moved back to Canada 6 years ago from the US, I had the same problem. I think I went with Sunlife. (Try this https://www.sunnet.sunlife.com/Buyonlin ... teinfo.asp)

Or- http://www.healthquotes.ca/

Good luck!

I don't know from which country your returing from but wouldn't the health insurance you have there cover you in Canada untill ohip kicks in? Could you not just get travel insurance from where your leaving from for 3 months?
