3 Year TN-1 Approval Through Mail in

Post Thu Jun 11, 2009 10:32 pm

Just to provide info for people scouting in the forum.

I got an TN extension for 3 years recently though Vermont Service center.
Took Approx 7 weeks.
I was currently on a 1 yr TN which will expire in the third week of June.
I got approved and my official approval document back 1st week of June.
Surprisingly, my new 3 year term starts from the day(as written in my I-797) after my last date of my first term.
This actually surprise me, because I know if you renew at borders CHP usually put your start date the day you enter regardless of your previous TN term ending date.

My situation is very straight forward. this renewal is with the same company and same position, under Engineering. My company pays for the fee and lawyer to draft the 3 year request.

Good Luck for the Rest

Extending in the US vs going to the border

Post Fri Jan 13, 2012 5:42 pm

I was thinking of extending my TN-1 with a I-129 to avoid the border hassles (last was at Pearson and it was brutal--before issuing me the TN, he told me angrily that I was taking a job away from an American in this poor economy; he also did not like that I was eligible for a 3 yr stay, especially as this was a renewal). I was recently told that it could take 4 months to receive approval with a I-129, however. Anyone out there feel it is better to do the extension in the US or at the border? My academic and licensing credentials line up perfectly with the TN job title. Thanks!
