Would be grateful if anyone could help.

I am British, and my girlfriend Canadian. We haven't lived together and are not married. She is 32 and not classed as s killed worker.

We would like her to come to the UK for maybe a year, at which point we might make some other arrangements to stay together ball being well.

Her age would appear to be a big problem. It stops her getting a working holiday visa.

Does anyone know the best way for us to proceed.

Thanks

There is not a lot of choices because she is now too old for the temporary working visa (working holiday maker visa is for 30 years old max). If she can't get a skilled worker visa the only options (as far as I know) are:

1- Ancestry: Are her parents or grand parents British?
2- Student visa: she could apply to study in the UK (she can work part time).

Not much else I'm afraid.you could do like what we did.get married (and apply for a spouse visa)!

hope this helps

She has no British ancestry, so that one's out.

Thanks for your help.

If she has a university degree and at least 3 years of work experience in that field, she has a chance of getting in on Tier 1.

Please note, this is based on the info that's currently on that site. They have nothing up about Tier 2 as of yet, but I have a feeling that it's along the lines of Tier 1 where you need that degree, the money, the experience in your field AND in the UK PLUS be sponsored to get the points you need to fulfill the requirements.

In all honesty, this is what the new Boarder Agency rules say: if you're Canadian, and you don't have the skills we want, you're pretty much screwed in coming into our country to work. You can visit, but that's about it.

Trust me, I want to work in the UK, but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out what I myself can do!
