A Newbie to Canuckabroad.com

Post Tue Jul 27, 2004 5:56 am

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and it's good to see fellow Canadians online and in the UK.

I'm originally from Toronto (North York) and moved to the UK August 2002. I am currently in Birmingham, West Midlands.

Wondering if there are any other Canadians in the area?

One thing that I miss living in Birmingham is the multi-culturalism that Toronto has, the great restaurants and well, the clean streets! Anyone feeling the same?

First of all-welcome to Canuck Abroad! I have been living in the UK for a while now. This is my 11th and hopefuly my last year!
I live in the East Midlands myself but have been to Birmingham on a number of occasions. I am from Waterloo, Ontario-my Uncle however hails from York.
I agree that Birmingham cannot in any way shape or form compare to Toronto. T dot is a great city with lots to do and great restaraunts. Remember a restaurant called Bon Marche? Not to mention Pizza Pizza ahhhh memories...
Hope you are enjoying Canuck Abroad

Ahhh, I definitely miss Marche....

they really should bring something like that over here! I'm sure it would do fabulous in someplace like Brindley Place (Birmingham) .... even more so in London!

Yeah...that would be good in Birmingham. BTW if you ever do get too homesick, there is a place in Covent Garden called the Maple Leaf pub that has Canadian beer amongst other things. Theres also a shop online I think its:
www.canadashop.co.uk where you can get Canadian goods.
On behalf of CCR UK I welcome you to Canuck abroad and remind you that membership is available.

Hi Chrystyna,

I'm a newbie to this forum as well. I'm from Vancouver Island and I've been in the UK for about 3 years.

I don't live near Birmingham but I have been there a few times. I have a friend who lives in Leamington and when I visit we often go to Birmingham for the day. That Bull Ring thing is .... um, interesting  I'm not sure what I think about it yet.

I know what you mean about the streets! I always thought it was just a population density thing but hearing comments about the streets from a Torontonian has made me now wonder just where does all the dirt come from!
