A TIM HORTON'S IS OPENING IN NZ!

Post Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:51 pm

Hello eh,

Just joking about the coffee of course - just wanted your attention. I have a few questions:

We are moving to Napier late September, 2007. I have seen a few "wish i had known before i left sites" for Australia, but nothing on New Zealand. Things like proper health care and insurance, any visa concerns/problems and if any of you have brought in vehicles from Canada (such as two motorbikes)- all these subjects hardly seem mentioned on this site. being an optimist I am thinking this is a good thing and Canadians are well received in NZ!

Do any of you's already over there have any "I would have done this differently had I known" sugggestions to share with us? How about the people that moved there since posting on this site back in 2006, was it as smooth as you imagined? Can I bring you a Tim Horton's coffee?

One of us us a doctor (employed upon arrival), the other an architect hoping for a strong industry and job after arrival. how is the job market for foreinger?

any expats in Napier?!

Cheers from Calgary.

as to health care, once I had my work visa, I was enrolled in a clinic and get good care there, and pay only $5 or $10 for each visit. My presciptions only cost me $3 each! which was good news as in Canada they cost me about $200 per month. also I had a fall on a bus (bus reversed suddenly) and I found out I am eligible for 20 free physio visits. this applies even if you are only visiting the country apparently. all good. but there are long waiting lists to get into hospital, (as in Canada) and some people join a private health plan like Southern Cross to get coverage for things like dental as it costs a fortune here. eyeglasses etc not cheap either. In fact nothing much is cheap here, I am still getting used to it.
