Adoption in Bermuda

Post Thu Jan 29, 2009 6:59 am

My wife and I are trying to start an international adoption while we are here. Bermuda itself does not want to be involved in the process and Canada will also not facilitate the adoption. We think that adoption firms in the USA can help but we have been told that Canada has to give us permission first.. Does anyone have any experience/ advice they can give us??

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
Have you and your wife had any luck in your research? I also have the same question as my husband I have started to investigate adoption while we're here in BDA.
Thanks!

Hi Mark and Cordelia,

Have you had any success with your attempts. We started a second international adoption prior to moving to BDA - the Ontario government is now giving us a hard time at paperwork renewal time.

Any info you can share would be welcome.

Adiption in Bermuda is very difficult. Bermuda law strongly support children being raised by birth parents and only under extreme circumstances do they allow children to be adopted. However, the Bermuda government strongly support the foster parent program which is run by the Department of Family Services (located on Victoria Street, upstairs of the Computer City). In some cases, foster parents are allowed to adopt the foster child. When you complete the necessary application forms, you should be honest with your social worker and they can place you with a child that requires long term care. Take care.
