Advice for Self Employed in IT

Post Fri Aug 06, 2010 7:27 pm

Hi folks!

Thanks for all the great information I have found so far on this board. I have trolled for details but cannot find an answer to our situation so I thought I would ask:

My wife and I run our own software company, and have several corporations as clients. We work on a contract/project basis, so when the project has completed, we are "off line" until the next one starts. We can have several projects running at the same time for various companies, so we are almost always busy.

We are considering a move to the US and we were wondering what you guys thought might be our best options. We're pretty sure that if we like it we will want to stay and buy a home to be there on a more permanent basis but will be traveling back to Canada on a fairly regular schedule to see family/maintain business ties etc.

From what I have read we might not qualify for the TN visa since our projects might last only for a few months with one employer and from what I have read on the NT, if your 'job' with the employer completes, you need to get out!

Any advice would be appreciated!
