Advice on Working in Ireland

Hi!

I'll be moving to Ireland in June on a one year working visa, with my boyfriend who is European.

I've done a lot of reading about the culture and done some personal research on jobs in my field (HR), as well as looking into renting apartments. I lived in the UK for a year in 2005 so am familiar with working abroad, but at that time i was a little younger and waitressing.

I'm mostly looking for advice on Canadians being able to get professional jobs in Dublin. If anyone has had any experience with this or has advice, I'd really appreciate any help!

Thank you!
Jillian

Things move slow, don't they?

Hi, Jillian,
you must be getting excited with your move coming up shortly.
How is the planning going?

Regarding my move, things are moving along slowly but surely. there is only so much i can do before i hit a wall because I'm not going for another 7 months or so (I'm finishing up a contract here till year end.)

I've just begun looking into jobs in and around Dublin, I'm in marketing and business administration.

how is your job hunt going? finding anything in HR? from what i can gather, the jobs are in abundance but just finding one that pays decent and can be traveled to seems a bit of a task.

sorry i don't have more information, just thought I'd say hello and let you know that I'll definitely be in touch if i do discover a link or resource to share.

take care, Deb

Hi Jillian and Deb,
I am a Canadian student who is strongly considering working in Ireland for a year between my undergraduate degree and my masters degree.I am hoping to find some work in HR or marketing.
How did you do in your job hunt? How did you go about your job search? Do you have any tips for a Canadian student searching for work experience in those fields in Ireland?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Hazel

Hi There!

I have recently decided that I would like to see more of the world and to start I am planning a trip to Western Europe...mainly the Great Britain and Ireland to start. I am planning to take a year to work/travel and as this is my first major trip planned I am a bit confused on how to even start looking into Visas or trying to find a way to get citizenship if my heritage can help me out in that way. Has anyone been through this and can you offer any ideas on first steps in the process. I am currently a Canadian citizen who has distant relatives living in the UK (cousins of my parents etc.) I have got a few leads on people to speak with but ANY help at this point would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help you may offer!
A.
