Grandparents and mother born in the UK

Post Mon Sep 19, 2011 5:30 pm

Could someone please answer this question:

My maternal grandparents and mother were all born in the UK. My grandparents and mother migrated to Canada in 1952. I was born in 1970.

I am currently married to a British citizen, who lives in the UK. I live in Canada and I'm thinking about moving to the UK to be reunited with my husband however he's currently unemployed and therefore I'm assuming unable to sponsor me because of that.

What citizenship/visa should I be applying for (i.e. UK Ancestry, Right of Abode, dual citizenship)?

Also, I have a 14 year old son (my husband is not my son's biological father however I have sole custody and his father is in agreement with us moving to the UK - he is not currently involved in my son's life on a regular basis). What citizenship/visa should he apply for (i.e. UK Ancestry using my mother's information?)? And, my son has special needs (non-verbal-Autism) - would they deny his application based on his disability? What information would I need from my son's father to ensure my son is able to accompany me to the UK on a permanent basis?

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

You would be eligible, as you read this thread, for two-step process (registration, following by swearing in) for UK citizenship by descent. your son would not be considered UK citizen.
If you go to UK under another route (Ancestry visa, or thru spouse), you could instead naturalise, in 3 (?) or 5 years.

As to your son's eligibility for immigration to UK, I don't know which would be best. I would think that the child of a citizen, would have slightlu more rights to move to UK, then a sponsored applicant, or the child of a sponsored applicant. others may know more about this.

Hello

I understand that I am eligible to get my British passport (I am born in 1985 and my mother was born in Scotland in 1959). I read that all I would have to do is apply and I can get my citizenship. Would I have to send in her birth certificate to prove that I am eligible? Also do you have any information on where to send it I am having a lot of problems trying to get information over the phone regarding this topic. Sorry forgot to mention I am a canadian citizen.

Thanks

Curtis

All N american passport requests are handled thru the US embassy in washington. No phone calls necessary. Form C1 and attachments are well explainedon embassy website.
This site is a travel site and not best source for these topics:
