AM I STILL ELLEGIBLE FOR a UK ANCESTRY VISA??

Post Sat Sep 17, 2011 2:13 pm

Hullo there

AM I STILL ELLEGIBLE FOR ANCESTRY VISA :?: I am applying for my Ancestry Visa based on my Grandmother being born there. However in those days they just stamped the children’s names in the parents passports. When she was 4 years old they moved to another country and never went and obtained her UK Passport. Will i then qualify for an Ancestry Visa if i produce her Birth certificate? AM i still entitled to one if she never got her own actual UK passport?

If you grandmother was born in the UK, then yes you're eligible for an ancestry visa. IF she was born in the UK there has to be a birth certificate registered. Do you know her date of birth, and where in the UK she was born? You can then apply for a search with the appropriate office eg Office of Records in Scotland or England or Wales to find her birth certificate.

You don't have to provide your grand-mother UK passport but you'll need to provide her full birth certificate (the long form) as well as her marriage certificate to your grand-father, your parents marriage certificate as well as your father or mother's full birth certificate (the one through whose ancestry you're applying). You'll also need to provide your own full birth certificate.
