American in The Car

Post Wed Oct 20, 2010 10:55 pm

Hello!

About a year ago I met a boy while vacation in Vancouver. I'm from alberta and he is from Phoenix, az. Now, we are taking the next step. I have applied and been accepted to university in his city, and intend on moving there Jan 1, 2011.

I have some concerns about the border crossing! This move is killing two birds with one stone. I have been thinking about going back to school for some time now, AND I get to move closer to him. I have all my papers and am reading everywhere that I am just to take my documents to the USA/Canada border crossing to and have it be determinded at that time if I will be granted my student Visa and entry to the USA. The plan was for the boy to fly to Calgary, meet up with me and drive with me back to AZ.
I'm now growing concerned that having my American boyfriend in the car will not help with my proving my intent to move back to Canada once my program is finished. Does anyone else think this is reason for concern? Should I drive down alone or with someone else?

I should also note that he has dual citizenship between Canada and the USA. Would that make a difference to a customs officer?

Help! I don't want to risk being sent home! but I'd certainly not like driving all the way to AZ alone!
