Hi,
I'm an American needing some advice/guidance in creating a plan to marry my Canadian fiance. We are presently in Florida but he will have to return to Canada (Ontario) in December at the end of his 6-months in the U.S.
We have been reading the scenarios but are uncertain as to the best route to take - naturally, we want to minimize the amount of time we'll have to be apart from each other. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? Basically.is it better to marry here and file for 'that kind' of visa, or is it better to marry in Canada?
We hope to find the most efficient and timely path.
Thanks.!

Which country do you plan to live in after you're married, any answers will depend on that one question.

for info on immigrating to Canada via marriage see http://roadtocanada.com

for info on immigrating to the US via marriage see http://www.visajourney.com

Reba,
We are hoping to live in the US. My fiance won't be needing a visa for employment, if that makes a difference in choosing a visa path. I'll look at the websites you posted; thanks for sharing them. If you have any other thoughts, please let me know.
Thanks.!

he'll need a work authorized visa in order to get a SSN so you and he can file taxes, and so he can open bank accounts and get a driver's license. And if he plans to live in the US indefifinitely, he'll need all those things.

If he has to return to Canada in December, send in the petitions now for a K1. Info is at Visa journey, posted above in my other post.

Reba,
My fiance is retired and won't be needing a work visa. Also, as a "snow bird" he has a temporary-renewable driver's license already, in addition to a bank account. Knowing that he won't be seeking employment, do you have any other avenue of advice?
Thanks so much.

spousal or fiance visa is the way to go for him to be able to stay legally and permanently in the US with you.
