Ancestry... anyone??

Post Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:54 pm

Hi there,

I was wondering if someone who has been approved can tell me what their submission was like?

What did you include?

I am planning to include the following and just want to know if I'm missing anything:

1. grandparent's birth certificate
2. parent's birth certificate
3. my birth certificate
4. bank statements for past 6 months
5. payslips
6. CV & letter of intent regarding working in the UK

Am I missing anything?

I do have a National Insurance number and have worked and supported myself in the UK in the past, is this of any relevance do you think?

Please let me know!
Thanks!

on the basis that you have seen the application form as well as read the guidance notes - you've more or less covered it

http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas- ... -ancestry/

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... idance.pdf

Again give them what they ask for in the application form - remember they want originals of the detailed (long form version) birth certificates + parents marriage certificate & of course details of your current passport, along with information about any previous travel to or stays in the UK

Parents' marriage certificate as well as grand-parents' marriage certificate are essential to establish ancestry.

I also wondered about the marriage certificates, but I thought that as long as the birth certificates for grandparent, parent and child showed the link to UK Ancestry, that was enough.

In my case, my maternal grandfather was born in the UK - I have his birth certificate. I also have my mother's birth certificate (showing both parents names) and my birth certificate, which shows my mother's name as well as my father's. I did not realize I would need my parent's marriage certificate (or maybe even my father's birth certificate) when the link is through my mother and her father.

I do have 'copies' of their marriage certificates, but not the originals.

Could you please clarify?

Thank you so much.

Hi

It can be very confusing. I had to thumb suck and guess what they need. All in all it took about 11 months to get all the paperwork in order, but it only took one (yes you heard me) one day to get my visa approved.

Ok so im the spouse of someone that has lineage so it was even more paperwork for the both of us

Firstly we supplied my husband’s grandmothers' Scottish birth certificate, his grandparents' marriage certificates, my husband’s mothers' birth certificate, His mother and fathers' marriage certificate, my husband’s birth certificate, my Parents' marriage certificate and my birth Certificate.

That showed my relationship with my husband and also how he is related to Scotland.

Then secondly we did finances so we supplied six months bank statements of all our bank accounts, credit cards and home loans. We supplied six months’ worth of Pay slips and an employment letter of our current jobs.

Thirdly we showed how we were going to fund our stay there. We supplied the statements of where the funds are. I have around ZAR 40000 and my husband has ZAR 57000 in our respective accounts. This we will be taking with us when we enter the UK.

Fourthly we had letters from people in the UK that said that they would a) support us financially and b) if we need a place to stay. This came with their latest utility bills.

Fifthly we supplied our CV's and the jobs we applied for there. We were lucky because we had confirmation of employment already (or rather interviews for the jobs)

Lastly we also supplied pictures of the families, the grandparents from Scotland and also xmas pics and social events. I don’t know if this was really enquired but it couldn’t hurt.

Because of the mountain of paperwork i placed everything in a flip folder (those see through sleeves) in chronological order that made sense.

I hope this helps?
