Ancestry Dependency Visa - Partner/Spouse

Post Mon May 18, 2009 7:32 am

Hi there,

I currently hold a WHM visa and live with my fiance who has an Ancestry visa. We have been here for 8 months and I am looking to hop on to his Ancestry Visa as a dependent. We've been together for 1.5 years and been living together for 1 year (8 months in London and 4 months in Canada before we moved here) but find it hard to provide documentation for the 4 months in Canada (got all mail online etc..).

We were told we need to have 2 years worth of documents to prove we are in a legitamite relationship (2 problems - we've only been together for 1.5 years and don't have much docs other than the ones for the last 8 mths). My fiance can support me (we both have jobs here) so no access to public funds is not a problem. Because of this, we think it might be difficult to get approved as non-married partner....

So we are just going to get married in Vegas (woo!) and submit the marriage certificate. Do we still have to submit all the other documentation (bills, photos, letters etc..) if we are married? Or is that simply required as proof for non-married couples?

Thanks for all your help :)

Hello
The 2 year cohabitation rule ( Immigration Rule 295A) is there to demonstrate that you are in a relationship akin to marriage with an intention to live together permanently and that your relationship is not in its early stages and therefore you do need to provide evidence otherwise you don't fulfil one of the requirements for an unmarried partner visa.

Thanks

Great! Thanks for your response. I guess the marriage certificate alone should be sufficient and it won't matter we've been together less less than 2 years.
