Ancestry Visa Application

Post Thu Oct 02, 2008 6:50 am

Hi there,
I am in the midst of filling out an application for an Ancestry Visa. I need it for early January.
It asks what date I plan on going over. Does this need to be an exact date? I'm not sure what day exactly I will be arriving in the UK. I know what week I will be arriving, is that good enough?
Also, it asks where I will be staying in the UK. For this is it okay to put down the address of a hostel or bed and breakfast?
Finally it asks that if I am applying as a Work Permit Holder I need to include information about my work permit. Do I need to fill this part out? I am going to work in the UK as a supply teacher, but I have been given no work permit. Should I be looking into this?

thanks, this is all a little stressful,
this website has been a huge help.

1) No, the exact date isn't necessary.
2) A hostel or b&b is fine; you should include details, i.e., name and address, and print out a confirmation of your reservation for backup
3) No, don't fill out the work permit info; they are just using one form for all. Ensure that you have a letter of offer from the organization offering you the teaching job though.
Necessity is the mother of reinvention.

Thanks a lot for the info.

I have not submitted the application form yet. When is it that I will be charged $431? Does this happen during the online submission process? OR do I pay at the VAC appointment?

thanks

Ricky,

You must pay online, and make sure you select the $15 courier fee (unless you live near the VAC). It gives you those details at the end of your application, and then to select your appointment. I've almost completed week one of my stay; it's so worth it- just as long as I can find a job!

Thanks Peter,
Another question. It asks for evidence that I will be able to support myself once I arrive there. Is it enough to get a print out of my bank balance from the bank? Or do I need to get an actual monthly bank statement? I ask because my VAC appointment is fri Oct. 17 therefore my most recent statement won't have as much money on it as I would like.
Thanks

Ricky,

Go in to your branch, and ask for a print out of your last three months- this way they can see what goes in and comes out. Have them stamp it "certified copy" if possible so they know it's authentic. In reality, I would be prepared to show at least $2000 in there- then the UK government know you can afford to fly home if it doesn't work out. This is what we did (however we were lucky enough to have more than $2000).

Good luck!
