Ancestry Visa - Bank information questions.

Post Mon Aug 29, 2011 11:39 am

I'm getting a UK ancestry visa in the near future, just had one last question before I can finally apply and get this ball rolling. I have all the appropriate forms and information needed, except one. I'm, unfortunately, currently unemployed. I was laid off from my previous job and have been receiving E.I. while going through the process of getting everything ready to make the move. Because of this, I don't have any payslips, or statements of the money I've received as it's all online. Do I absolutely need that information to apply, or will I be fine without it as long as I have enough in my account to prove I can support myself?

I do have $3000.00 CAD in my bank account currently, and I was just wondering will that be enough? Also, since I'm lacking in payslips, will just a print out of my income / spending be sufficient? Also, I switched bank accounts in the last few months, I'm assuming I should include both even though I was putting all my UK savings into one account correct?

Also, should I be closing my bank accounts in Canada before I leave? If so, what is the best way to go about traveling with my money as I'm not comfortable having that much on me while I fly. ( I'm overly paranoid about pretty much everything. ) How difficult is it to set up a bank account over in the UK on a visa? Should I be looking into it now instead of waiting until I get there?

Thanks so much for any help you can offer, it will put my mind at ease. :)

I don't see any reason to close your Canadian Bank account, it will just make things more difficult for you and mean you will have to carry all your cash on you until you set up a new account.

As for the paper work, include it all, the more information you can give to back up your situation the better. If you bank and it is all on-line, print off the statements etc. Best to send too much information than not enough and slow things down.

You should provide bank statements for the past 6 months. If you had more than one account, you should provide statements for both of them in order to show your financial situation. You should be alright with $3,000, but we'd recommend that you start looking for a job right now and submit proofs of your application with your cv as you have to show your intention to work in the UK. As for your Canadian bank account, you don't have to close it. Once in the UK, you'll be able to open a new account quite easily as long as you show the bank a proof of your finances in Canada such as the statements you used for your application.
