Well, this is quite the process. Heh, I've now booked my flight and am really hoping that things will work out with the visa. Don't worry, not leaving until July, but things are feeling a bit tight if you know what I mean.

I've started collecting the docs I need, the first to arrive is my Long Form Birth Certificate. It is a copy, actually they call it a "Certified True Photostatic Print of a Record" to be specific. On official feeling paper, with the General Registrar Stamp.

When I called the visa line, they said they would not accept certified copies. This is all I can get.
Anyone offer any insight here? I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance - I'm sure I'll be asking loads more questions!

Are you sure that's all you can get? I have an official long form birth certificate from Ontario, and I just checked the BC site and found applications for that province. What province were you born in?

Thanks for replying.
I was born in Ontario, and was only issued a short form plastic birth cert.

This did seem to be the only option on the website. I thought I'd be getting something official.

We do have to request my boyfriends BC Birth Cert, so if you have any info on that, I'd appreciate it. Hard to believe it would be possible in one province, and not another.

Thanks again!

This is the site I used. http://www.serviceontario.ca/english
It says that you can get birth certificates OR certified copies. Just start the application and you'll be able to see what they offer you. I got new marriage certificates last week and they only took about 2 weeks.

I think that is the correct version of the Long Form:
https://www.orgforms.gov.on.ca/eForms_faq/start....nShortAndLongForm

I think the confusion is the use of the word 'certified copy'. Usually a certified copy means that you have photocopied the item, and had a guarantor sign it to say that they have seen the original form. But I think the certified version of the long form is all you get and that it is acceptable.

You definately need the long form because the short form does not show your parents information.

Make sure when you apply for your visa to request to have your visa post-dated for the date that you arrive in the UK. My friend forgot to do that and ended up having to move two weeks after being approved, instead of two months. At least everything worked out for her in the end.

Thanks Mari-mac! You are correct. Just got an email reply stating that as long as it's from the registrars office it's fine.
Thanks for the tip Tigerlea - as I'm not leaving until July 14th, I'll make sure to do that.

Cheers,
niki
