Ancestry Visa - Getting Organised - Questions

Post Mon Feb 07, 2011 7:24 am

Hi all,

I'm trying to get myself organised for the actual application process and was hoping for some help and advice on a couple of questions I have.

Background:

Dad (and others going back 4 generations) born/raised in UK but I don't qualify for passport due to parents not being married.

I have gathered the following to submit with the application:

Birth Certificates:
-Father
-Grandfather
-Grandmother
-Mine
-My daughter's

Passports:
-Mine
-My daughter's
-Our old, expired passports

My carte de séjour (residence permit for France)

Recent bank statements showing $20,000 + CAD (is this enough??)

My custody agreement indicating primary residence with me. We've now lived in France for 10 years with her father remaining in Canada. Will I require a letter from him regardless?

I was made redundant here in France last year and qualify for unemployment benefits for 3 months after leaving France. What should I submit to indicate this?

I have started looking for work already, but while I've had some interest, noone wants to know once they hear that I don't already have the right to work in the UK.

I think that's all for now... really, ANY information is appreciated. I hope to submit the application in the next week and make the appointment with Worldbridge in Paris for March.

What am I missing? I feel like I'm missing something!?

Many many many thanks!!!

If you have lived in France for 10 years why do you need a UK visa? Is your passport not French and part of the EU?

If not, would it not be easier to apply using your existing residency in France for their passport?

Hi bo_bos,

I'm Canadian with a Canadian passport. I could ostensibly apply for a French passport, but it would require applying for French citizenship which takes over a year to do.

Seeing as I have no intention of remaining in France, it just seems wrong.

Hi

It can be very confusing. I had to thumb suck and guess what they need. All in all it took about 11 months to get all the paperwork in order, but it only took one (yes you heard me) one day to get my visa approved.

Ok so im the spouse of someone that has lineage so it was even more paperwork for the both of us

Firstly we supplied my husband’s grandmothers' Scottish birth certificate, his grandparents' marriage certificates, my husband’s mothers' birth certificate, His mother and fathers' marriage certificate, my husband’s birth certificate, my Parents' marriage certificate and my birth Certificate.

That showed my relationship with my husband and also how he is related to Scotland.

Then secondly we did finances so we supplied six months bank statements of all our bank accounts, credit cards and home loans. We supplied six months’ worth of Pay slips and an employment letter of our current jobs.

Thirdly we showed how we were going to fund our stay there. We supplied the statements of where the funds are. I have around ZAR 40000 and my husband has ZAR 57000 in our respective accounts. This we will be taking with us when we enter the UK.

Fourthly we had letters from people in the UK that said that they would a) support us financially and b) if we need a place to stay. This came with their latest utility bills.

Fifthly we supplied our CV's and the jobs we applied for there. We were lucky because we had confirmation of employment already (or rather interviews for the jobs)

Lastly we also supplied pictures of the families, the grandparents from Scotland and also xmas pics and social events. I don’t know if this was really enquired but it couldn’t hurt.

Because of the mountain of paperwork i placed everything in a flip folder (those see through sleeves) in chronological order that made sense.

I hope this helps?
