Ancestry Visa Online App help

Post Mon Nov 01, 2010 9:34 am

Hello,

I am all ready to go and have hit a little bump in the road with the online application. I tried to seek advice from the WorldBridge staff and discovered that they are not able to provide any assistance.

I need to confirm that I am making the correction selections for the Ancestry visa:

App 1 for myself. Ancestry is through me. I selected:
Purpose of Application- Employment (non Points-Based System)
Type of Application- UK Ancestry

That seemed straight forward.

App 2 for my wife who will be joining me. I selected:
Purpose of Application- Employment (non Points-Based System)
Type of Application- UK Ancestry

The only other option that I think might fit is the one that says: Dependants more than six months.

If you use the paper based VAF2 application, you each complete one of those and it specifically states:

If you are a dependant wishing to accompany someone entering, or already in, the UK with an Employment visa please go to 8.12

The online version does not say this. It does ask why you qualify and in that box my wife indicated that she was joining me. I have not submitted the forms and I am trying to confirm that we are submitting the correct online form for her. The last thing I need is to have her application rejected because we clicked the wrong button.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Robert

Hi,

When I submitted the Visa application for my common law wife and myself, I was confused as well. The website does not explain anything. I submitted the second application as "dependent more than 6months". When we went to our interview I pointed it out to the officer. She was unsure herself and thought I should resubmit it as "UK Ancestry". In the end I decided to keep it as the dependent application. I wound up getting the Visa with no problems.

Good Luck

Hi,

I found a great post online that showed step by step how to compete the app. I would post it but they won't let me put up links on this site.

Once I picked "dependant more than 6 months" all of the expected questions appeared. It asked if my wife was joining a person on a work permit or ancestry visa. In addition it asked questions about how I qualified, what work I would do and how I would be able to support her.

It is very confusing because they don't make it clear that you spouse is joining you as a dependant.

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

You mentioned that you "found a great post online that showed step by step how to compete the app. I would post it but they won't let me put up links on this site." Would you be able to post the name of the site where you found it or tell me what I could Google in order to find that post? I am getting ready to apply for a UK Ancestry Visa and I am preparing the application for the first time on my own.

I was also wondering which documents you provided to show you had enough funds to support yourself and what you used as evidence to show that you intend to work in the UK. Did you already have a job arranged when you applied? Also do you know how much money they require to show you can support yourself without needing any help from public funds?

Hi,

I have submitted my application and will be going to the Vancouver office to submit my biometrics on Monday.

The website I found tells you how to start the dependent visa. It does not go into detail about how to answer all the questions. The Ancestry Visa was easy to figure out. What visa my wife needed to fill in as my dependent was a little harder to get.

In terms of proving our financial ability that is a little bit of a mystery. The Youth Mobility Visa requires that you have £1600 and most people seem to use that as a benchmark.

I am providing my monthly bank statements, quarterly statements from our investment account, monthly statements from our Lloyds TSB account and our 2009 Notice of Assessment. The bank and investment accounts are well above £1600 so we should be ok there. All the statements are originals which were sent in the mail NOT printouts from our computer.

I found this post really helpful and used it as a guide to setup my application.

Best of luck and I will let you know how it all turns out for us.

I just got my UK Ancestry Visa too. I submitted my documents as a portfolio (in a binder in those plastic paper protectors that you can slide paper into). This way it made it easy for them to find what they needed. This is what I submitted, in order.

When you go to Biometrics, they take your application, the picture you brought with you, and your passport and put it in a "tamper-evident" package. You take this package along with your other documents and send it in. (Make sure you print your application (after you submit it) and also print the confirmation email showing you paid. If you dont print your application, they will charge you $140 plus printing fees to print it at your biometrics meetin).

I sent in:

The tamper-evident package containing my application, biometrics, passport, and photo .

Proof of payment of application fee (around $450.. which includes the cost of return shipping fee from ottawa).

All three ORIGINAL long-form birth certificates. mine, my moms, my grandfathers. They must be long form.. not the plastic wallet size ones. I had to have them ordered specially and paid extra for expedite shipping. Mine from NB was $100 and arrived in one day, my moms from ontario was $50 and arrived in 2 days, my grampy's came from england and was 26pounds and arrived in one week. (make sure you order from government websites because its cheapest). Remember - don't send a photo copy.. it has to be directly from the register / issuer.

Financial information - some ppl (including the application) say submit the last 3 bank statements but i didnt. I went to the bank and told them I needed a official letter saying exactly how much money I had available to me. So they added up all my accounts and wrote a letter saying I had "this much" available. I had $8,000 but i know ppl who had $3,000 and got it.

Letter of Support - I had my boyfriend who lives in the UK write me a letter of support saying he can provide me with accommodations and will support me until I can find a job. I didnt need any proof that he had a place in the UK (ie didnt need a bill, and didnt need a rent contract).. just the letter which he signed, and I photocopied his UK passprot.

Letter of Intent to find employment. I wrote a letter like this "To whom it may concern - I am writing this letter to express my full intention to find employment upon entering the UK. Types of jobs i will apply to are....... I have these qualifications...." etc etc. Also I started to look for jobs on a website called guardian.co.uk and sent in an application so i would have an email saying "Thank you for your application to this job".. I printed that email to prove i wasnt going to bum off their welfare system and would actually try to find a job.

Additional random documents - I worked at a camp and had a police background check done for it, so I just added that to the pile (but dont go get one! its not needed!) and I added my university transcripts just to prove I was actually a masters student and not faking it (again not needed).

I submitted my application online and paid the fee then booked my biometrics apt for 2 days after. Once you have your bio apt. you only have like 10 days to mail in your package so make sure you have everything before you book the apt.

I mailed in my package Tuesday, October 20th 2:00pm, got an email saying they received it Wednesday October 21st 8:30am, then got another email saying they had issued my Visa, Thursday October 22nd 9:30am. and to allow 2 days for it to return.

If anyone has questions please feel free to send me an email because I know how helpful this website was and how anxious and worried I felt at times because there wasnt anyone to talk to for help! So please message me!!!!

Best of luck!!

Hello,

This is a follow up to my last post. My wife and I were approved for our Ancestry visa and Dependent visa

Timeline:

Wednesday, November 10th- Online application submitted
Monday, November 15th- Biometrics appointment.
Tuesday, November 16th- Visa app arrived in Ottawa.
Wednesday, November 17th- Email from UK immigration confirming that our visa was being reviewed.
Friday, November 19th- Email confirming that our visa was approved.

If all your documents are in order the process can be rather quick.

Cheers,

Robert
