Ancestry Visa

Post Thu Feb 22, 2007 11:37 am

I know this has probably been discussed to death on this board but i do believe my situation/question is a little more unique

My grandparents were British Subjects. Having lived in Kenya, they were classified as subjects. I found my grandfather's British passport and a letter recognizing my grandmother as a British citizen though she never got a passport.

My question is, does this allow me to qualify for an Ancestry Visa? I called the High Commission in Ottawa and was told I do qualify. but after reading some of the discussions on the Ancestry Visa, it seems your grandparents have to be BORN in the UK.

I don't want to apply for the WHMV as I plan on relocating to UK permanently. I am currently enrolled in a Montessori course in Toronto that finishes in December. After that, I plan on applying for the Ancestry Visa. If granted, I hope to be in the UK by early 2008 after which I will look for a job and a place to stay.

Showing sufficient income is not a problem and neither is a place to stay.

BUT before I drop $200 on an Ancestry Visa application, I just want to know if anyone else has had the same scenario to deal with.
