Help!!!!

My brother is moving over here in October on an ancestry visa, like myself. I have a couple questions that I am not sure where to get answers from. I know what happened with me re: customs when I came here the first time, but I don't know what to warn him about. When I arrived here I was coming via Ireland, and arrived with very little money in the bank, but with a secured job.

My brother will also be arriving with very little money, but he will be living with me until he finds a permanent position, and I will be giving him spending money. I am wondering if customs are going to hassle him, and if there are any guys out there with Ancestry Visas who could tell me what happened when they arrived here.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

But what do you do? He is a chef, and as I also work in the hotel industry, I know that he will have no problems finding work. Worst case senario, he goes to work for my company. So, work isn't the problem. I'm just curious about what the customs workers are going to ask him. Are they going to ask for a bank statement? Should I fly home for a visit, and come back with him so that I will be going through customs with him since I will his sole means of financial support until he gets settled?

Not sure about the ancestry visa in regards to customs questioning, but when I arrived I was asked how much money I had at my disposal. I was actually asked to submit a bank statement as part of the visa application process earlier on, so he might have been viewing such information while asking me.

There is no specific minimum figure in terms of how much money you need to have in order to enter. They're just trying to give you the once-over, and make sure you won't plan to go on welfare or something like that. Laughing Funny, as my visa already states that I don't qualify to use public funds.

If I remember correctly, I wasn't asked that much when I arrived. I did have a job though, so that might have made the difference. If your brother completed his ancestry application and said that he would be staying with you and you'll be supporting him, I don't see what the problem would be. Are you antipating problems for any particular reason?

Well, it seems to me that in order to enter your brother needs to have the visa secured already and that is the point where the questions would be asked, so I don't see a problem. When he enters everything should be set and there shouldn't be any questions out of the ordinary.
When we entered, myself with right of abode and my husband on a spouse visa, I did bring all our paper work just in case but they just stamped us and sent us on our way.

Thanks. I really don't anticipate a problem, just trying to safeguard. I have a friend who was really hasseled by customs when he arrived - was detained for a few hours even though he had all the correct paperwork. Since I am footing the bill of the relocation, I just want to avoid any possible pitfalls.
