Ancestry- What are the chances?

Post Tue Oct 25, 2011 4:02 pm

Hi folks,
So I've just finished collecting all the long form birth certificates etc for my UK Ancestry Visa. I just have to put together the financials, and my 'intent to work' stuff- this week I'll get that done- and I'm ready to apply.

My question- assuming a person has the necessary info, money on hand and intent to work... How likely is getting APPROVED or REJECTED? Even with the proper qualifying info, is this a hard one to get?

thanks in advance! our move is moving along, we're excited!

Although I looked into getting an Ancestry visa myself & saw the online application in a limited way (I opted to go for citizenship/registration/passport via UKM) From what I hear, if you have all the right documents (long form birth certificates, etc) they ask for & the $ fee, it is a fairly quick & straightforward process. My friend's husband had his Ancestry visa in less than a week, in a matter of days.

It's a quite straightforward application indeed, provided you have the correct supporting documentation.

I just recently received my UK ancestry visa, and I have to say it was a fairly easy process (though none the less stressful at points.) As far as I can tell, as long as you have all your documents in order the acceptance rate is fairly high. I have yet to read / hear about any rejections aside from people sending the wrong documents (short form birth certificates, etc.)

The only thing that I would mention, because I read this no where while I was waiting for mine, while some visas come within a week some take much longer. I waited five weeks before I got accepted for my visa, and was not sent all the emails I was told I'd be sent. Only the one saying it had arrived in New York and the email saying it had been accepted and was on it's way back to me. Once you get that acceptance email it's only a matter of days before your passport is back in your hand, though.

So, if you send it off and it's taking longer than some of the ones you've read about - don't panic! I know I did, and I really didn't need to. But it does indeed seem like the acceptance rate is fairly high as long as everything is in order.

Best of luck! :)

Hi

It can be very confusing. I had to thumb suck and guess what they need. All in all it took about 11 months to get all the paperwork in order, but it only took one (yes you heard me) one day to get my visa approved.

Ok so im the spouse of someone that has lineage so it was even more paperwork for the both of us

Firstly we supplied my husband’s grandmothers' Scottish birth certificate, his grandparents' marriage certificates, my husband’s mothers' birth certificate, His mother and fathers' marriage certificate, my husband’s birth certificate, my Parents' marriage certificate and my birth Certificate.

That showed my relationship with my husband and also how he is related to Scotland.

Then secondly we did finances so we supplied six months bank statements of all our bank accounts, credit cards and home loans. We supplied six months’ worth of Pay slips and an employment letter of our current jobs.

Thirdly we showed how we were going to fund our stay there. We supplied the statements of where the funds are. I have around ZAR 40000 and my husband has ZAR 57000 in our respective accounts. This we will be taking with us when we enter the UK.

Fourthly we had letters from people in the UK that said that they would a) support us financially and b) if we need a place to stay. This came with their latest utility bills.

Fifthly we supplied our CV's and the jobs we applied for there. We were lucky because we had confirmation of employment already (or rather interviews for the jobs)

Lastly we also supplied pictures of the families, the grandparents from Scotland and also xmas pics and social events. I don’t know if this was really enquired but it couldn’t hurt.

Because of the mountain of paperwork i placed everything in a flip folder (those see through sleeves) in chronological order that made sense.

I hope this helps?
