Annoyed!

Post Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:43 am

Hi there. I just want to check some things with people to make sure I have my information correct.

To get my ancestry visa through my grandmother I just need:

- my long form birth certificate
- my mom's long form birth certificate
- my grandmother's birth certificate ordered from the uk
- my grandparent's marriage certificate.
- proof of funds/bank info
- biometrics
- passport photo

Do I need to send my parent's marriage certificate as well? Their marriage has nothing to do with my grandmother's lineage to the uk - will I need this too?

Also - I was married when I was 22 and divorced. My passport name/name I use now is different than on my birth certificate.

Do you think they require me to submit my marriage or divorce certificate? It should be noted that I'm single with no dependents, so this application will only be for me.

Also - WHERE do I fill out the visa application, I am not sure where to find it.

HELP!

By the way, I posted my forum title as annoyed, because every other title I tried to input it told me I wasn't allowed to... lol.

Hi,

I did not need my parent's marriage certificate to get my ancestry visa and my ancestry is through my father's side, so should be fine for you. Ancestry is nothing to do with parent's marital status, so more important is names on birth certificates. You will need to prove that the person on your birth certificate is you, so some proof of name change will be necessary.

For both issues it is generally better to err on the side of too many documents than too few, so I would send marriage / divorce papers and your parent's papers if you have them. It all helps to prove you are who you say you are even if not strictly necessary to prove ancestry.

You can apply online through the uk border agency website.

good luck!

you've got most of the correct documents
-you don't actually need your grandparent's marriage cert. Your mom's longform b/c will say who her parents are and thats the important bit.
-the photo IS NOT passport sized though. I made that mistake when i applied. its actually smaller ( i think 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm)
-I would send copies of your marriage and divorce certificates as it is proving who you are.
your proof of funds needs to be for the past 3 months and it needs to be stamped by your bank, so online printouts don't work.
- if you can, include a letter of job offer if possible, as well as a letter confirming your place of initial residence.
- all of your documents MUST be originals or notorized copies. If they aren't, your application will take a long time.

the UK border agency will tell you more info, but the actual visa application is through UK Visa services. and in Canada it is outsourced through Worldbridge. fyi worldbridge is VERY expensive to get ahold of if you have questions. when i initially applied, it was a very circular process.

once you finish your application online, you'll need to book a biometrics appointment. Take all documents with you here, they'll go over your application with you and get it ready to be sent to Ottawa. Its really short waiting time once it gets to Ottawa. I booked in for my appointment on tuesday, and received an email saying my visa was issued the following monday! very speedy...

Hope this all helps and that it works out for you!
