I am single woman, 40+, no children living with me, and I've finally decided to persue a dream I've had since I was 11 years old.to move to Canada. I'm not even REMOTELY independently wealthy, I work for a living, nothing special, although I've been in my field over 20 years. I do health care analysis and follow up for a group of hospitals, working primarily with Medicare. According to my research I'm not sure how that would or can transition. I've decided for the time being to commute, although I'm not really sure how feasible that will be. I plan on working 3 days a week and telecommuting one day a week from home. The 3 days I work on site I will stay here with my daughters.
I'm wondering how much trouble it will be to cross the border every week, as well as initially get an apartment. Any info would be most appreciated. Also, can anyone shed light on who or what are sponsors?

You'd have to find a job with a company willing to sponsor you for a work visa

Here is the Canadian Immigration website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp have a poke around there for info

Breakfast cereal. Best ad on Canadian TV too: www.diamondshreddies.ca

You shouldn't have a problem getting a job as a nurse, there is a desperate shortage in Canada and US qualifications are usually recognised.

There are various ways of getting in, but the simplest is to find a job and that employer sponsors you for a work permit.

Okay, I get it, it's shredded
wheat! Which, when milk is
added.becomes soggy hay!
Thank you for that. I'm not a
nurse, I actually work in the
finance area, doing accounts
receivable work. Thank you for
the information, though.

Well, I'm guessing there's not as much call for accounts receiveable at Canadian hospitals, considering patients don't pay for healthcare like we do in the US. Completely different system, and paperwork is pretty much all dealing with the government.

I know, I've been researching. I can do customer service as well. Do know insurance issues and there are plenty of Americans living and visiting Canada. Perhaps someone needs a medical office manager, another option!

Actually if you work for Medicare I would have thought it would be even easier to get a job because the Canadian system applies to everyone, not just people on medicare. Not quite sure where you plan on commuting too from Connecticut though, mainly the paperwork is done in the capitols or the specific office in that Province, which is usually in the capital.
