Been here in Oct 2004 and will be here for a while... Landed a job, found an apartment, getting used to finding my way around Vienna... and loving the coffee shops! I'm in the 5th district -- where are you?

Hi Storm! How is life in the 23rd District?? Are you getting settled in okay?

How are your German language skills? I took a couple of German language courses but before I continue to the next level I landed employment (English is the main language) and the classes have taken a back burner to life. Are you taking language classes and/or working? I am hoping to get back into some German classes after the holidays... when things settle down and I can make the necessary time for them.

What part of Canada are you from? I'm born and raised on the outskirts of Ottawa. Most of my family is still living in Canada - ON, NS, BC, MB, AB and some have also jumped over the pond -- Northern Ireland and Australia. How long will you be here?

Cheers!

Hi Steph,

Welcome to Vienna!

Not sure about employment -- try English Language Schools, there are quite a few of them here. You of course have to be legal to work in Austria if you are to find a non under the table job. I work for an international branch (related to the UN).

If you want to meet other expats, there are many English/British Pubs (and have a beer at the same time!) as well as a few English bookstores etc that are frequented by expats from Canada, USA, Australia etc.
What are you doing in Vienna -- why are you here?

I'm here because my husband is Austrian (he had been living in Canada where we met and married) and we decided to move here for a few years.

What district are you living in? I'm in the 5th. There is a nother member, Storm, who lives in the 23rd district. We should makes plans to meet up over coffee (have you found a favorite coffee house in Vienna yet?)
