Hi there, I have just moved to Kingston Upon Hull, East Yorkshire, to marry. I would love to meet any other female Canadians living and working here in the Hull area. Who would have thought the our cultures are so different? Don't get me wrong, I am totally loving being here, but miss Canada and my Canadian friends. It would just be nice to go shopping or have a coffee or go to the movies with a Canadian girlfriend. My husband is wonderful and worries that I won't settle and be happy with life here in the UK. It is just a matter of time, I know that. But for now, it would be a very nice place to begin... a Canadian living in Hull that understands how it feels to miss beautiful Canada and Timmy's and Canadian Television (LOL never thought I'd say that!), etc... which can be discussed over a cup of coffee. Hope there is someone out there that understands. Right now I feel silly posting this LOL
Cheers!

Hi thanks for your note. Where in SE London are you? Where did you move from? Are you here in the UK because of business? Is your name Pam? If you are there are loads of coincindences involved that should be discussed LOL

LOL.

My name is Lori, not Pam. I last lived in Toronto. I am a social worker and work for the council and I have been here for 9 months. It has taken some getting used to, but I really like it here. My only complaint is banking, which, if you see my other posts, makes me homicidal!

Hi Lori, I lived in Toronto most of my life and my last address was in Oakville. I was a real estate agent. I have no idea what I will do here. Being married changes things a bit. I want a job where I can be home evenings and weekends. I find most things just that little bit different here so its hard to understand why banks and businesses would make it so hard for the customers. I hope you are enjoying your job and new life here. It is so new to me that I have yet to find my footing. All the best!! Laura

If you had a bank account with HSBC in Canada it could make things a whole lot easier for you. The banking doesn't even get all that better when you GET your account.

I understand how you are feeling totally. My fiance has the same worries as your husband. He feels at times that he has taken me away from everything and that I will end up resenting him. I think there is just an adjustment period you go through (I've been 'adjusting since 30 November of last year Wink ). I got SO excited when I saw Oreos in a store here. I hate cookies, but they were something familiar. However, at £6 a box... I decided my Kraft Dinner Emergency Infusion Of Canadianess stock would have to do.

Unfortunately I am not near Hull. I am in Milton Keynes. The punchline of many jokes I have heard before and since moving here. I like it though. I'd like it better with a few more Canadians though. I met an American (he was working at my local Blockbuster) and you'd have thought we had met our long lost siblings.

Hi Edghirl,

I'm getting married to a Brit and moving to Brough just down the road a bit from Hull. I'm terrified to be moving to a new country, but my inlaws to be are wonderful so it makes it easier and of course my hubby to be is amazing:) Will miss my Timmies and good old Canadian slang....lol but looking forward to it none the less. Would love to have coffee with a fellow Canuck when I get over there.
Take care,
Steph
