Any Canucks in North Carolina?

Post Sun Mar 06, 2005 9:09 am

I'm here in Morganton, North Carolina, about an hour and a half west of Charlotte, and an hour or so from anywhere else with anything interesting to do :p

Anyone else in NC? I married a local and moved here from the GTA about 5 months ago. I'm bored out of my freakin mind!

Canadian in Carolina

Reba,
I just discovered this site. Today is Canada Day and needless to say I'm stuck here in Raleigh, NC and feeling awfully homesick and was looking for other Canadians in North Carolina. I technically am not Canadian. I was born American and raised in Ottawa and moved down here a couple of years ago. I still haven't adjusted to southern life. Have a few friends. They are either American or from abroad. They're very nice, but sometimes they don't understand what I'm talking about. Let me know if you want to chat about home. I look forward to hearing from you.

Do you ever get sick of some of this Southern stuff?

I'm in Charlotte NC, married a man from the area, southern born and raised. I'm originally from Manitoba and then from Calgary, AB. I moved here last Sept. and we lived together until we married in June this year. A get to know each other period before the big committment. Have not been able to work of course, should get a SS by end of this year. Cleaning house, volunteer work, made a few friends but they all work, so alone a lot. Bored to death and getting fed up.

So if one more stupid southerner asks me something about "where I come from" and then says "this is the south and we don't give a damn how you did it up north". IE: a touque is a toboggan here. Yes they call knitted touques, toboggans.

Is there any Canadian get togethers any where in North Carolina?

A Canadian Expat meetup.com group is active in Charlotte, NC now. They organize hockey nights, game nights, canadian thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, St-Jean Baptiste and Canada day parties, golf, street hockey, and all sorts of other activities.

Can you either post or PM me details of the meet-up group. I am in South Carolina, only 90 miles to Charlotte. It would be a dream to meet up with Canadians and talk of the wonderful things back home.

While I don't get the out & about much, I do get slack for Z (zed, not zee), the way I say process and niche and my refusal to end every conversation with bye y'all. :scream:

Meeting on St. Jean Baptiste Day would be cool - that is my birthday :)

I'm also happy to chat.
