Hello all,
If there are any freelancers or journalists out there working in the UK, i'd appreciate any advice on how feasible it is to find work out there. I'm stil in Toronto, considering moving over to London, but not sure where to start. I've worked as a GA reporter in Toronto, so not starting out cold.
Anyone? Cheers

there's at least one. i leave in belfast (probably figured that one out) and work as a sub-editor at the irish news. don't know much about the situation on the big island. getting on a national one might be a tall order, but there are loads of smaller regional daily papers that always seem to be hiring. www.holdthefrontpage.co.uk has a pretty detailed jobs listings page. happy hunting and if you have any further questions i'll do my best to answer them.

I'm a pseudo journo, but decided to make the move to government work (at least for now).

Very tough to get a job without having their NCTJ quals.

I was offered a reporter job with a paper in one of London's seedier neighbourhoods. Took one look at the sorry state of the newspaper's office and never returned.

Guvvy work certainly isn't exciting (in fact, it's the 180 opposite of journalism in many ways), but it pays the bills, and can turn into a good career.
