Any info on unemployment extension under section 30 in MA?

Post Thu Jun 09, 2011 11:09 am

I collect unemployment benefits from MA, and I know there is an extension of up to 26 weeks for the benefits if qualified when going back to school for improving working skills. It is almost impossible for me to figure out or get an answer from there about the applicability of Section 30, Training opportunity program, for Canadians, as out of state claimants. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks.

If you did not get any infor from TOP Unit at 617-626-5375, or

then I don't know where else you could get info.

I couldn't find anything more than this: "Training outside of Massachusetts or a contiguous border state may be considered. Top unit will review. Schools must meet their states licensing requirement if required."

In general, it becomes difficult to find any info specifically for TN visa workers on the government sites. The issue is that all references are related to the training programs in the state, and subsequently the state's residents, and nothing about TN visa workers who are entitled to receive benefits from that state.

I think the statement is quite clear. You submit your information, and info about the school/program, and they decide ig TPOS applies to you (ie. extended benefits without having to job search -- which is what you are really asking for).

No need to keep searching. sumbit to TOP unit and find out.
