Anybody in Melbourne West?

Post Tue May 22, 2007 8:19 pm

Hi everyone ~
I live in a western Melbourne suburb and was wondering if anyone else lives nearby?
Would love to plan a meet and greet with others of Canadian affiliation.
What do you say, eh?

My husband rides a Suzuki GS1100 . and I love to scrapbook, cook pancakes, garden, paint, write and speak French, too.

Drop me a line if you are interested.
Thanks
Stella

Hi Stella!

How long have you been living in Melbourne? Are you & your husband both Canadian or is he Aussie & you Canadian, or vice versa?
My bf is Aussie (near Melbourne) and I'm Canadian and we're getting married in Las Vegas and I need to know what I need to go back to Australia with him at the end of January. Any advice, suggestions, knowledge of what I need to do now and what I should wait to do? I need to know if I need approval of the spouse visa before I leave Canada or if I can go to Oz on a visitor visa while I wait for my spouse visa to be approved?

Hi Dina ~
When I was in Ontario in the year 2000, Colin wrote me an email from Brisbane. That's how we met. He had read a poem of mine in a newsletter, liked it, and wrote to tell me so. We fell in love through our letters. I'm Canadian, he's Australian. So it's the same as you and your bf.
He came over on a 6mth visa in June 2000, brought me back to Australia with him in December. We got married in Queensland in February '01. But that doesn't matter to the Australian immigration department. They use much more than a wedding certificate to determine whether or not you can immigrate here. So, my advice to you is:
You need to start your paperwork NOW! Go online to immi. gov. au (no spaces) or google "immigrate to Australia" - it'll come up first thing - and do LOTS of research. Download the papers that apply to you and start working on them asap. I can't really tell you any more than that, because each case is different.
I had to go back to Canada in 2004 for those papers, and it took me almost TWO years to get approval to come back here. Now, almost 2 years after that, I've just received the next lot of papers to submit for my permanent residency application.
It's a long, arduous process, so don't waste any time. If I had known then what I know now! But, having said all that. It sure is worth it!
We now live in the country - near Sunbury, nw of Melby - and it is just perfectly beautiful here.
Good luck and let me know if you need any more info. You can private message me, if you like.
Wishing you success!
PS: which suburb does your bf come from?
