Applying for citizenship - out of Canada timing count

If we travel or live abroad, we usually come back to visit right? Here's a the place to meet other "re-pats" and Canadians who have returned.

Applying for citizenship - out of Canada timing count

Post Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:56 am

Hello,

I am Canadian permanent resident and going to apply for a citizenship. I was traveling to US few times during the last years crossing the board with my car. I also took a plane 2 times.
I made a very stupid mistake - have never recorded the dates and days that I spent out of Canada.
Is there any way to know the dates (and duration) I was outside of Canada?

Thank you! Will really appreciate any help.

Only you would be able to determine these. Surely you have some idea about when these were and for how long. Put down as close estimates as you can.

It will not be anissue unless you are cutting the number of days very close to the limit.

Thank you!!!

I thought I have to know an exact dates I left/came back with the car so I was worried, because I might remember approximate dates, but not an exact duration.

Isn't that so? Approximate will work just fine?

When I said "What other chouce do you have" That is a rhetorical quaestion. As I said earlier, there is no other way of knowing when you left other than you tracking it.

So, forget about calling anyone, write down your best guess and move on. You did not spend months away at a time did you? So get past this.

For others wishing to become Cdn citizens, start tracking your departures.
