However, a couple years ago when returning to Canada from an exchange program in Singapore, I made an improper declaration on my customs card. The Canada customs officer who inspected my goods gave me a warning and didn't charge me for anything.
I noticed that on the CBSA website, there is a note regarding warnings here: http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5071-eng.html
The CBSA keeps records of warnings for up to two years. These records help us enforce customs laws and regulations.
After two years, your record will automatically be deleted if you haven't had any more violations.
Since the first warning in 2009, I have been very careful to declare everything properly.
When applying for Nexus, when I answer the question about any previous customs violations, do you think I'll still have a chance to be accepted into Nexus when I disclose this violation and note that I received a warning with no penalty and that it occurred over two years ago?
The Canadian Nexus site describes that you may be denied enrollment into Nexus if you have any recorded customs violations.
Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience? It seems like I'll just have to spend the $50 application fee to try if I want to know for sure...
