Applying for visa/citizenship using the UKM form

Post Mon Apr 20, 2009 2:45 pm

Hi All,

I am a newcomer to this board.
I am interested in applying for my citizenship using the UKM form (born to a mother who was an english citizen)

In reviewing what I need to send in for my mother I have to send in a birth certificate ( I have) & either

1 ) Her cerificate of naturalization or registaration as a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies or
2) Adoption papers (she wasn't adopted so N/A) or
3) Expired citizen of UK passport (which she never had, she came to Canada @ age 11 under her mothers passport)

Does anyone know what the certificate of naturalization is for and where one would obtain that from.

Thank you so much for your help.

I am only at the beginning phase so far.

a certificate of naturalization is for someone who applies for British citizenship, for example I have a certificate of naturalization because I married a British citizen and I have been living (on a permanent visa) in the Uk for at least 3 years. To have the certificate I had to apply to be naturalized as a British citizen, and it means that now I have a Canadian passport and a British passport.

Your mother would not have a certificate of naturalization because she was already a British citizen.

Hope this helps

Hmm, that is rather interesting as the papers that I have say that the documents I need to send are
> My Passport,
> Full birth certificate,
> Mothers birth certificate, and either
> Her certiciate of naturalization
> papers for legal adoptioin
> expired passport

And considering it is a UKM form the assumption is that your mother was a british citizen, I assume the word they were looking for is OR not AND.

Anyhow thanks you very much for the response
