Approaching Companies/Recruiters - Help

Post Fri Mar 31, 2006 11:29 pm

Well, like an idiot I decided to up and leave Toronto to come to sunny LA. I've been here a week and have had no luck with the recruiters. I have an MBA and four years of good experience but have no idea how to approach recruiters and companies about the TN Visa. Any help would be much appreciated. Success stories are also welcome too as I am a little low in moral and could use the pick me up.

hey, I have been in La for 34 months and no job! but I dont have a degree, and from what I can tell thats all you need to get a H1 work permit. Just apply to jobs and in your cover not tell them that you are canadian ,and will need to get an H1, but you should offer to pay for it because no employer will not. call an immigration lawyer, it will be around $3000, but thats what you gotta do
cheers!

You can obtain a TN visa at the border going into the US (no lawyer required!!!!), all you need is a job offer in writing for a position that is listed on the NAFTA Professional Worker list along with education requirements (some jobs all you need is high school and some a BA) and the cost is not that bad. The visa is good for one year but you can renew it as many times as you want. The only down side is you can't obtain a permanent residence status. Here is a link that will tell you what jobs and education requirements are needed. Good luck.
