Australian Tourist Visa Extension - Help!

I am a Canadian travelling in Australia with a 1 year Tourist Visa (I am too old to work on a visa and don't want to anyway). My Visa runs out soon and I want to stay for another 6 months. Does anyone know if this is possible? I am unsure if I can apply for an extention or another Visa. I have travel insurance, funds to travel live on easily, and a job to go back to, just need to get another summer under my belt before returning to Canada. Someone suggested I leave the country and re-enter with an ETA, but from coming and going a couple times the past year it seems customs is quite uptight about people trying to work here or overstaying. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
