Its very simple, as others have stated, you have no RIGHT to visit the USA, for some reason (not saying you) think Cdns have a right. As well one should always have proof that your going to return to Canada. As you said you did not have that, nor did you show you had strong ties to Canada. Al those set off an alarm in a POE officers head! Plus you said your were "moving to the USA to LIVE with your sister" Well you have no RIGHT to move and LIVE with your sister, you If allowed can only Visit! Again if you used the word "Living" to a POE officer, to him that means a lot more than "Visiting" You are lucky you got in the next day. One should always have proof, and the burden to get that proof is on you, not the POE officer.

OK i'll try to extend and THANK YOU guys for the Amazing forum you have created here! Looks very professional, clean and easy to navigate! Support is Fast and I am surprised you had interest to read my story - Thank you!

Alex, from my personal experience on Canuckabroad, the forum members on here that post a lot & answer questions have been through many of the things that other posters ask & respond with that or from other experience.

I dont believe ever that a senior poster is wasting their time giving a response & never I have found given bad information or intends to purposely criticize someone.

You just have to remember a border agent (CBP or CBSA) is human - they get to do the same routine boring job day in-day out looking at several hundred faces with the same ugly grin.

They are IMO similar to a glorified bank teller, a supermarket cashier or like someone that works dising out fries & soda pop ... they look at you, ask a bunch of routine questions ... then - can I help the next in line please

To put it lightly - just have your act together, or in the case of the bank teller & cashier ... your bank/debit card, because without the right stuff, you'll only make the border agent say something like 'make my day'

Actually of course I did not mention I was MOVING or planning to LIVE there to the officer. I just said I go there for maybe 6 months more or less.. but I understand my mistakes, they are just doing their job. Thanks

We can only give you advice on what you post. And yes I believe she can sponsor you, but it takes many years! And if you said 6 months or more, again, sets off warning bells to POE officer

I'm a glorified Bank teller?

I actually have studied immigration law for many many years.

That would be one of the stupidest comments I have ever heard on this site. Thanks!

maybe not quite the glorified bank teller then

Its all process no matter what you call it

Next in line - move forward please

I suppose like any job if the person doing it did not keep up to date with the process, rules & regulations - then they'd be stale, like a dry piece of bread

USA almost always ask you for a firm return date. This is true if you go by plane, cars, boats, etc... If you try to avoid supplying an exact return date, they will enforce one on you with an I-94. Often time, they give you the date you asked for (+ a few days for travel)... However, if you supply more then one date, they will give you an I-94 that is anything they think is appropriate.

If your trip seems to indicate you will take a plane, they highly prefer when you purchase a return ticket. This is even true if you take the plane in the USA (for example, Burlington VT) for a more distant US destination (Los Angeles,CA).

When you return to the US (Next time), they might ask you: How many days have you spend in USA... for each of the 3 previous years. Keep this information accurate and ready to be supplied. Take care, when the limit is 183 days per years maximum, some officer might enforce a different limit such as the 3 years formula.

On a single occasion, I was given an I-94... and a lot of questions (40 minutes of them). Since then, I have return twice to US and they did not ask much of anything. Consequently, I don't think that receiving an I-94 is any indication that you are put on a "high problems List". :)
