Bank Account

Post Sat May 20, 2006 12:14 pm

Here's the problem: When I moved back to Canada, I kept my English bank account open because I have plans to return back to the UK to live on an ancestry visa (first time was through a working holiday permit) in a year's time. Is it wise to keep it open or should I just close it? I had quite a hard time getting it in the first place, but I don't know about a) taxes or b) if it's legal to have an account if I don't actually live in England. Thoughts? Suggestions? Help!

I don't know if it affects anything like tazes either, but after what I went through to get a bank account here, I don't think I would ever close mine!

Good luck!

Leave it open. The red tape over here is incredibly complicated, all in the name of security - yet there are no checks or balances for once you get past the first stage of these things.

Honestly, you could keep it open until 2012, and they couldn't care!

Helps that the building societies don't charge monthly fees over here! :D

I agree. Change your statements to e-statments, leave about 5 pounds (or some small sum) and leave it open. It is such an ordeal to open it.
