Banking help needed

Post Sat Mar 28, 2009 8:53 am

Hi All,
I currently live in the US and am having issues with getting money out from my Canadian account. I have monthly deposits put into my Canadian CIBC account. I have been using my debit card to get the money out but am getting huge fees from CIBC and the exchange rate that ATMs give you are horrible plus the charge for using that ATM. I have a Bank Of America account that I would like to put the money into. My Canadian account is the source of my income so I always need the money ASAP. Wire transfers cost too much and you always have a wait.
ANY suggestions???

YES!!! Use www.xetrade.com. I transfer money every month from my U.S. account into my Canadian to cover student loans. They don't charge fees but just give you a trade on your money - anyhow see their website, they are awesome. It takes about 7 days to transfer the money and they're based out of Victoria, BC. You can easily transfer your Canadian money into your American account.

Yes, just use a currency broker. XE is run by Customs House currency exchange.

Have been using CustomHouse since 2005, a great company! Very professional to deal with, walked by their office oodles of times in Victoria when I resided there.

Takes a bit to set up the account has you have to verify yourself. You have to send in some stuff, which can be accomplished by fax, snail mail, or you can scan it and email it in through the secure email. As well they phone you at a pre-arranged time to go over some stuff. Not hard at all, and they wil even walk you through the set up and making a trade. I now reside in the USA, but left my Cdn bank card with my folks, so when i travel back to Canada, just tx $$ from my USA acct to my Cdn acct and then use my Cdn debit card. Or if my folks owe me $$$ (doesnt happen often, lol) they deposit it into my Cdn acct, then Tx to my USA account. A transaction takes 3-4 BUSINESS days, as long as you do it electronically (EFT) it is FREE! They do offer a wire service if you need the $$ quick, but there is a feee for that.

Just be advised, your first transaction sometimes takes a bit longer. As wel when settign up your account, it does take a few days to activate, as CustomHouse (CH)has to contact each bank (they send the bank a fax) to verify your information! I just recently had to add another USA bank to my account, and it took awhile. So I got on the phone with CH to see what the hold up was, and they said my USA bank had yet to get back to them, so the CH rep said, lets do a 3 way call with ur bank, sure. I gave CH my banks, #, and we did a 3 way call, and it was sorted out within minutes. the CH rep was awesome, plus if ya get the right CH rep, they will even talk a bit of hockey, lol

As well as the above suggestions, if you switch your CIBC account to ScotiaBank, they have an agreement with BoA for free use of their ATMs in the US. I used them all the time when I was down here visiting for the winter one year, no fees at all.

Check with ScotiaBank and/or BoA to see if the service is still available

Hi,

I thought there is no issue of using Any bank of ATM in any machine, so there is no charges for using any other bank ATM>
