Banking

Post Tue Mar 11, 2008 11:41 pm

Hello everyone!

Looking for suggestions on opening a bank account in Hannover to deposit money and at times the odd withdrawal, maybe pay bills (not sure yet). I will be moving to Hannover on a 6 mth temporary assignment and I will be getting a sum of money every few weeks and what I would like to do is deposit the money and then transfer it online to my Canadian bank.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Cheers

I have an account with Dresdner Bank, they have online banking.
I've heard Postbank is good too.

i have sparkasse. they're okay, but everything is german (not that it matters anymore to me.you get used to it), but you have to pay for everything(monthly fees to have, online transfers etc)-banking at the tellers cost you extra. i'm not sure if i like the banking system here, actually. i have to pay them for the privilege of allowing them to loan my money out and make profit. oh well, i think they are all like that. it they're not, please let me know!

Dresdner Bank isn't like that, the place you're at sounds like a big rip off.
By the way, what's a sparkasse? I never really understood the difference between banks and sparkasse. Don't think we have them in Canada.

Deutsche bank also doesn't make you pay for everything like that. at least I'm not aware of it if I pay them :P

We have that in Canada. at least in Quebec. Caisse Populaire Desjardins.

Cannot tell you the exact difference though :P

i am actually a bit shocked. EVERYONE i have talked to here says that the banking ain't free (and we're only talking about 2 euro/mo for the konto and 1 for online transfers).
i don't think there is a dresdner bank here, but ill have to see about deutsche bank.
