Best cell phone and broadband deals in Vancouver

If we travel or live abroad, we usually come back to visit right? Here's a the place to meet other "re-pats" and Canadians who have returned.

Best cell phone and broadband deals in Vancouver

Post Thu Mar 01, 2007 10:38 am

Moving back to Vancouver after several years abroad, and need to get a mobile phone and broadband internet.

Any suggestions as to good companies for cell phones and broadband? For broadband, I'd prefer something fast, in which the upload speed isn't capped, and an ISP that doesn't block/slow BitTorrent or other Peer2Peer file exchange.

Just curious - how long do broadband contracts usually last for? They're generally 1 year here in the UK.

Cheers.

Heya,

Broadband is FAR less complicated here than in Europe. Contract? Ha!

Call up Shaw (www.shaw.ca) and ask them for service. They're the cable company (so it's cable internet) and are pretty good. You can get them to install internet when they come to setup your cable tv.

Another option is Telus ADSL - Of course you have people that say shaw is better, or telus is better, but from my own personal experience I prefer shaw. It's very rare I get any kind of service outage. I think I pay about $35 or $40 per month for the cable internet.

Cell phones- Not sure. I haven't bothered getting one since I moved back to BC. I used to use Bell Mobility, and had all kinds of problems with them (billing, service, etc). Rogers Wireless is supposed to be pretty good, and Fido as well if you're staying local (they have a city plan or something).

Cell phones normally do need a contract though. I had a two year contract with Bell, but that included the phone.
